Every strong business needs a strong supply chain. If you look into it, you may discover that much of yours is dependent on fuel prices. And if prices go up? One solution is to "relocalise" – to source products locally. It may be necessary to rethink your whole supply chain and production process. These sites can help you get going.

Good websites

Description

ecosys.org.uk Ecosys is an independent not-for-profit environmental consultancy based in Brighton. They have a good site which includes a link to SEE – a Directory of Sustainable Eco-Enterprise in East Sussex. This is a list of businesses that supply a range of goods and services in a sustainable way.

leweschamber.org.uk

One way to strengthen your supply chain is to add local suppliers. These are probably less vulnerable to rising transportation costs. According to Marketscan there are more than 1300 business in the Lewes area. Why not check out the Lewes Chamber of Commerce as a starting point for your research?

worldchanging.com

Often changing things means changing the way we think. Worldchanging is a good site to start this process – they have a business section with news, ideas and resources.
kingston.ac.uk

The REMATERIALISE project, based at Kingston University, maintains a list of 'Eco-Smart' materials. These are environmentally responsible alternatives to other resource hungry materials. Go to the Kingston website and type REMATERIALISE into the search engine (or click here).

envirowise.gov.uk

Envirowise produces a range of publications containing advice on a variety of resource efficiency and waste minimisation topics. Using your resources well reduces your dependency on your suppliers – and increases your profitability.

rmi.org

The Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) has long been a leader in new thinking about “Abundance by Design” – re-engineering  supply chains to create better profitability with more sustainability. Amory Lovins’ video on the front page gives a flavour.

greenfutures.org.uk

Green Futures magazine “aims to lead the debate on how to achieve a sustainable future – one that’s both practical and attractive: a future we’ll want to live in.” It’s available on-line or on paper. Unlike many other green magazines this one has a significant interest in businesses and entrepreneurs.

alibaba.com

Alibaba is a fantastically successful on-line B2B market place. It's mainly designed to support global trade. But you can, of course, also use it to find UK suppliers - for just about anything!
